Sekisui Chemical Co. Ltd. is combining plastic sheet makers Kydex LLC and Allen Extruders LLC under one roof as Sekisui SPI.
“By bringing Kydex and Allen together, we are setting a new standard of excellence for the plastics industry to think, design and create,” Sekisui SPI president and chief operating officer Ronn Cort said in a Sept. 16 news release.
“The name is new,” Cort added, “but we are the same people you have relied on in the past, with the same commitment to create safer, lighter products.”
The new unit will be headquartered in Bloomsburg, Pa., where Kydex is based. Sekisui Chemical launched Kydex in 1987 and bought Holland, Mich.-based Allen in 2007. Allen had been founded by the Angell family in 1970. The firm has annual sales of $50 million and makes sheet based on high-impact polystyrene, ABS and weatherable materials.
A sales total for Kydex was unavailable. The business makes sheet for medical devices, retail store fixtures and industrial equipment housings. Earlier this year, Kydex opened a new lab in Bloomsburg.
Tokyo-based Sekisui Chemical is a global plastics and chemicals maker with $11 billion in annual sales. In February, the firm announced it was building a chlorinated PVC plant in Thailand through a joint venture with Lubrizol Corp. of Wickliffe, Ohio. |
